Nature Encounters
Through an extended dialogue with works by 11 Danish contemporary artists the exhibition unfolds and perspectivizes J. F. Willumsen’s fascination with and fear of rugged nature, and in particular his preoccupation with the power of the mountains as catalysts for mental journeys into the secret recesses of the mind. The contemporary artists selected here interpret nature from a variety of angles that include the systematically observing and registrative, the philosophical and the existentially exploratory as well as the constructed and culturally determined. It is not the flat Danish landscape that is the starting point for their works, but violent natural phenomena like glaciers, volcanic eruptions, tidal waves and the burning rays of the sun.

The exhibition includes works from Danish artists Astrid Kruse Jensen, Dark Matters, Ditte Knus Tønnesen, Ebbe Stub Wittrup, Eske Kath, Eva Koch, Jacob Kirkegaard, John Kørner, Nikolaj Howalt, Olafur Eliasson and Tal R
